Skills
Teach your coding agent how to extend Ghost UI and document the result clearly.
Skills are reusable instructions for a coding agent. Ghost’s skills help you create your own component set with coherent APIs, styling, examples and writing. They work in your repository and follow its conventions. Install React components separately through Installation.
Choose a skill
Ghost craft helps you design and build a component, compose existing owners, define state and verify the result.
Technical writing helps you research, write and review accurate component pages, setup guides and API reference.
Use both when extending a library and documenting the new component. Either can be installed alone.
Install with the Skills CLI
Run these commands in the project where you want the agent to use the skills. The Skills CLI requires a supported Node.js version and lets you choose your coding agent and installation scope.
The CLI installs to the current project by default. Add -a codex to select Codex, or select another supported agent interactively. Add -g only when you want a skill available across projects. The CLI reference explains agent selection, direct downloads and scope.
Confirm the installed skills:
Look for ghost-craft and technical-writing. Installing the skill supplies instructions; your agent must support loading skills. It does not change component code or certify generated work.
Use the skills
Ask your agent to apply the installed skill by name. For example:
Give the agent the task, your existing component locations and any constraints. Follow Extend the library for the complete path. Read the proposed contract before polishing its appearance; check code and installation before accepting its documentation.
Manual installation
Download Ghost craft or Technical writing. Each file is a complete SKILL.md with metadata and instructions, with no sibling files required. Place it in the named skill directory your agent supports. Codex and other agents using the shared project convention can read:
Use the CLI or your agent’s documented location when its convention differs. Read a skill before installing it and keep your project’s own instructions authoritative.
Maintain your copy
Review changes before replacing a locally customized skill. The CLI’s check, update and remove commands manage supported installation sources; manual copies require manual updates. Installing from a download URL does not mean the skill is listed on the skills.sh directory.
